Last War squad formation: what belongs in the front row?

Kimberly can have excellent damage and still disappear before she gets much done. In Last War, the two front slots take the opening pressure; the three back slots give damage dealers and support heroes room to work. Start by checking those jobs, rather than sorting your five heroes by power.

What a Tank formation looks like

One example in Last War Vault's formation guide puts Murphy and Williams in front, with Kimberly, Stetmann and Marshall behind them. It illustrates the arrangement: two defensive heroes, two damage dealers and support. It is a reference lineup for accounts that own and have developed those heroes, not a shopping list for a new account.

The Google Play squad guide also recommends placing Defense heroes forward and Attack or Support heroes behind. If you are missing a named hero, fill the job with someone you already use before rebuilding the whole squad.

“Tank” can mean two different things

A defensive role and the Tank troop type are not the same label. A hero can belong to the Tank troop type while doing damage from the back row. Check both the role icon and the troop type before moving someone forward.

The community guide lists a 20% squad stat bonus for five heroes of one troop type, compared with 15% for four. That gives you something concrete to compare when adding an off-type hero. The extra hero still has to earn their place through the battle result; the larger bonus does not automatically make an underdeveloped formation better.

Watch the first casualty

Replay a loss and note who falls first. If a front hero collapses immediately, address that slot's survival. If both front heroes stay up but you run out of time, look at back-row damage and skills. Keep the same target while trying one replacement so you can tell whether the change helped.
