Pokémon TCG Pocket: is the missing card worth your Pack Points?
A 70-point card and a 500-point card represent very different amounts of pack opening. Compare the exact card, expansion and exchange price before spending.

That is a good reason to look at Pack Points. Spending points just because the balance has grown is less useful: you may exchange for a card you would have pulled while finishing the same expansion.
Put the price in packs
Opening a pack through the Pack screen awards five points. Pokémon Zone's exchange guide lists costs including 35 points for a one-diamond card, 70 for two diamonds, 150 for three and 500 for four. Event reward packs are not automatically part of that same system.

A 70-point exchange therefore represents points earned from 14 pack openings; a 500-point exchange represents 100. This is simple division, not an estimate of when the card will drop. If the cheaper card completes a deck you want to use today, saving everything for a rarer illustration may not serve your goal.
Open the exchange for the correct expansion
On the pack-selection screen, open Pack Point Exchange and check the card's expansion and price. The current official FAQ says Pack Points do not expire and are tied to their expansion. A balance earned from one expansion cannot pay for a card in another expansion's exchange.
Older guides may still carry outdated availability warnings. There is no need to rush an exchange solely because you saw one of those warnings.
Buy the copy you need, then get back to playing
The Pokémon Company's collecting guide presents points as a way to fill gaps in a deck or collection. Check the exact artwork and rarity before confirming: two versions of the same Pokémon can have very different prices.
If you are still happily opening that expansion and do not need the card yet, wait. If one affordable copy makes your deck usable now, the guaranteed exchange has a clear purpose. Once that gap is closed, there is no need to spend the remaining balance in the same session.
